Immediate Press Release:November 11th, 2009Half a century has passed since the Chinese communist government occupied Tibet and claimed their illegal control over it. Tibetans have been suffering immensely under the Chinese occupation since then and more than 1.2 million Tibetans have lost their lives as a direct result of Chinese brutal regime. We, the freedom-observing citizens of this world, urge President Obama to use the U.S. China summit as a genuine discussion between world leaders who desire to advance the stance of human rights. In the past two weeks, the courts in the People’s Republic of China has ordered the executions of four Tibetans and sentenced numerous life imprisonments for their alleged involvement in the March 2008 protests in Lhasa, Tibet's capital without proper access to independent legal representation. We adamantly condemn the budding series of Tibetan executions and harsh sentencing of innocent Tibetans who are labeled “enemies of the state”, “terrorists”, and a “threat to the motherland”. We are calling on US President Obama to take the immediate opportunity to speak on behalf of the suppressed Tibetan people inside China-occupied Tibet. The U.S. China summit comes at a time when the Tibetan situation is in a crisis. Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, a six year old boy from Tibet who was officially proclaimed as the 11th Panchen Lama on May 14, 1995 by the Dalai Lama went missing three days later on May 17, 1995 with his parents. Since then his whereabouts is not known and today he is an adult with the capability to make his own decisions. We urge President Obama and people of the world to help us to appeal the release of the Panchen Lama and his parents immediately and unconditionally. Our hope lies in the president’s support and efforts made towards the Tibetan situation. We sincerely hope President Obama will obtain successful relations with the leaders of the People’s Republic of China after the U.S.-China summit. However, thecommon relationship that will bind the two must first and foremost strive to create opportunities for prevailing human rights and freedom that all people have birthright.
