Dear Fellow Tibetans,
As requested by the Tibetan Youth Congress headquarters based in Dharamsala, the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress, New York and New Jersey, has decided not to celebrate the forthcoming Tibetan Losar (New Year). Instead, we will, in co-ordination with New York Chushi Gang-druk Association, organize a mass prayer in honor of the fallen heroes of Tibet on the second day <DATE> of the Losar. The event will take place near New York China embassy. We request all to join us on that day.
This letter is to notify to all Tibetans that the RTYC NYNJ will host the New Year Eve gathering at Armenian Church in Manhattan at the end of this year. There has been some questions that have arose among some Tibetans as to if such a gathering would be appropriate while Tibetans in Tibet are suffering immensely. We would like to clarify that our intention in hosting this event is neither to undermine the Tibetan unity nor to create any sort of rift amongst ourselves.
Whatever fund that the RTYC NYNJ raises is used solely to organize events and mobilize people in order to safeguard Tibetan identity, and keep the Tibetan movement alive and thriving. We believe that the events this organization hold will help secure and strengthen the Tibetan cause. But we need the fund to make things happen.
The 11th executive members of the RTYC NYNJ has the utmost respect and compassion for those patriots of our land who have sacrificed with their lives for the cause of Tibet. We stand in solidarity with them and our aspiration to fulfill their desire is unyielding.
We are organizing the forthcoming New Year's Eve event not just because it is a time to celebrate and be merry, but because we believe that such a gathering shall reinforce our ability to bringing the movement to a next level, and eventually achieve independence for Tibet. Therefore, we would like to appeal to all Tibetans to support RTYC NYNJ and join us on this New Year’s Eve for a night of solidarity and unity.
The RTYC NYNJ organizes this New Year fundraising event every year. And like always we went ahead and booked the hall in May this year. A total of $10,000 have been paid in advance to the Armenian Church establishment.
After being elected as the 11th board members of RTYC NYNJ in April this year, we have organized a range of protests and other gatherings, and in this span of 6 months our expanses have been about $80,000. As you are aware, for an organization to be active and functional, it needs funding without which it'd extremely difficult to host events, protests and gatherings etc. RTYC NYNJ is no different.
Our only source of income lies in the donations that we receive from other Tibetans sympathetic to the Tibetan cause, and the income that we generate from hosting events such as the New Year's Eve gathering. The RTYC NYNJ raises most fund for our activities during this event. In fact the fund raised from this New Year's Eve event get us through all activities we organize annually.
In conclusion we would like to appeal to all Tibetans to join us on the night of the New Year's Eve to support RTYC NYNJ and to show the Tibetans inside that we stand in solidarity with them.
11th RTYC NYNJ Executive Members.
