December 10- NY,NY-
In light of Human Rights Day, local Tibetans and Tibet supporters publically voiced their disapproval this morning with conditions inside Tibet and China alongside Min Ling Sui, communications director of Human Rights to China. The event began with a press conference in front of the United Nations building where actor Richard Gere addressed the Human Rights issues inside Tibet and China. In addition, Mary Beth director of International Campaign for Tibet also addressed pending issues. The speakers all honored Nobel winner Liu Xiaobo and strongly advocated for his rights and freedom.
During the afternoon session at the Chinese Consulate, Regional Tibetan Youth Congress alongside Students for a Free Tibet held a protest demanding for improvement of Human Rights inside Tibet. Wangchuk Shagapa, representative of the United States Tibet Committee offered an inspiring speech during the event. Protestors demanded for the immediate release of the Panchen Lama and innocent political prisoners and their human rights returned.

PETITION FOR THE RELEASE OF TIBET’S PANCHEN LAMA ON INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS DAY.
Dear (Decision makers),
On May 14th, 1995, Gedhun Choekyi Nyima was named the 11th Panchen Lama by the 14th Dalai Lama. After his recognition, Chinese authorities detained Gedhun Choekyi Nyima.
He has not been seen in public since May 17, 1995 along with his family. Human Rights organizations have termed him the ‘youngest political prisoner’ in the world.
The whereabouts of Gedhun Choekyi Nyima are unknown till date. No foreign party or organization has been allowed to visit him. Respect for Human Rights and
Human dignity is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world, therefore on this very important day, we gravely urge the United Nations to use the
leadership to do everything in your power to pressure the Chinese government to immediately release Gedhun Choekyi Nyima and allow media and investigation
teams into Tibet. We want China to prove that he is safe and happy. The international community will never truly accept China as a leader on the world stage as long
as injustices like the Panchen Lama’s detention continue. We call on Chinese government to immediately release Gendhun Choekyi’s Nyima.
