In response to Chinese Premiere Wen Jiabo’s visit to New York City, local Tibetans and Tibet supporters rallied in front of the United Nations and the Waldorf Astoria Hotel today. Wen Jiabao who was expected to take part in the opening of United Nations General Assembly Meeting was met with strong protests. Slogans such as “Wen Jiabao—Free Tibet” and “Wen jiabao stop killing innocent Tibetans” were echoed throughout the streets of New York as over a crowd of 100 protestors chanted them. The protest named “Wen Jiabao’s Unwelcome Protest” by Regional Tibetan Youth Congress of New York and New Jersey proved to show in number, in front of fellowworld leaders and the United Nations, that there exists mounting disapproval with China’s policies. The need for human rights was urgent and was expressed to the world leaders to urge China to take immediate actions. The protest along side with Students for a Free Tibet began 12:00pm and ended at 8:30pm. Concluding the event, attendees sang Long Sho, Prayer For Truth, and the Tibetan National Anthem. |
