The 12th Pawo Thupten Ngodup memorial Basketball tournament concludes in New York city this Saturday. This year Church of Jesus Christ of LDS generously offered their basket court for this tournament which they said was for a good cause. Organized by Regional Tibetan Youth Congress of New York and New Jersey, this tournament honors the late Pawo Thupten Ngodup and all the other martyrs who laid down their precious lives for the cause of Tibet.

Mr. Ngawang Tashi, president of RTYC NY & NJ briefed the attendees about the significance of this tournament and was then followed by one minute silence to mourn the sacrifice of all the Tibetans in this struggle for independence. He also said that such tournaments aims to bring together the young Tibetans on one common ground and uphold the unity among all.

Fourteen boys team and four girls team participated this year. The teams also comprised from neighboring cities like Philadelphia, Boston, Cambridge, Connecticut, Washington D.C and a team from as far away as Toronto (Canada).

The tournament was well attended by spectators mainly comprising Tibetan youths. As much as the spectators enjoyed and appreciated the graceful display of basketball skills of different players, there was a sense of unity that brought together more than hundreds of Tibetans promoting their feeling of oneness.

The formidable MMC team again took away the title against Toronto Team after a tight game. However, it was the Queens United girls team that walked off with the women's trophy.

Vijay Gurung and Rinzin Magar Thapa both from MMC team shared the Most Valuable Player (MVP) trophy of the tournament. Bishop of the Church of Jesus Christ of LDA and Miss Tsomo, General Secretary of Regional Tibetan Women Association of NY & NJ presented the trophies and cash prizes to the winning teams.
