Today, Regional Tibetan Youth Congress of NY and NJ organized a community discussion led his eminence Doe Rinpoche Palden Yeshi Gyatso on the selection of reincarnated Lamas based on traditional Tibetan Buddhist practices. The purpose of the event was to better educate Tibetans against Chinese Government’s Order Number Five that restricts Buddhist monks from being recognized as a reincarnated lama outside China. Consequently, putting a significant cease to centuries old Tibetan traditional practices and hindering its very culture.

The program began 1pm with an introductory speech given by Ngawang Tashi, President of Regional Tibetan Youth Congress NY&NJ. He outlined the significance of the day’s event and urged everyone to see the imperative nature of being a learned Tibetan in areas of Tibetan traditions. Especially when Chinese Government’s policies strive to destroy these very foundations of Tibetan culture. He also mentioned the aims of the Tulkus, High Lama’s was to deliver the messages from Lord Buddha for peace and harmony in the world.

Doe Rinpoche Palden Yeshi Gyatso then spoke on the significance of Tulku towards the Tibetan people since the time of Kinf Songtsen Gampo. Also, in great detail New York and New Jersey Tibetans were taught in great detail the very process of Tulku reincarnation and recognition from informed and high lamas. The discussion proved to be very informative.

In attendance were over 55 people. Regional Tibetan Youth Congress of New York and New Jersey will strive to have a bigger attendance turn out next year as we plan to make this discussion an annual event due to its imperative nature.
